Gene Bank at Peradeniya

Gene Bank at Peradeniya

The proposed gene bank & research center acts as the main hub to educate & acknowledge Sri Lankan community about the importance of Nature Conservation in the terms of deforestation.

The architecture of the building generates common ground to the people about the application of wood/soft wood in a bizarre level of technological innovations. The preservation genome of Sri Lankan Flora and fauna is the main goal underneath the facility which may result sustainable conservation in long term.




The project itself addresses to rejuvenate Compatible agriculture and ecological awareness through thematic architecture hybridization.

The bottom up progression of the awareness about nature conservation has been able to inject in to the minds of people as short-term strategies through proposed remote network of awareness centers.

Furthermore, from the main genetic research center & its network of awareness centers acts as a local internet that share the knowledge in addition to policy making and legal manifestation; which is less effective, temporary and outdated.

The project network boosts the awareness towards the importance of natural resources in a bottom up process which gives an understanding to the individuals; resulting a long-term but effective practice of comprehensive natural conservation.

The architecture, setting out of the building, materials used, technologies and applications experimented are being discussed in the report and the panel presentation furthermore.

  1. Compatible and timely Architectural approaches and applications.
  2. Softwood technologies and other ecological representations.
  3. Genome preservation procedure as the projects back bone.
  4. Experience centers & its process of acknowledgement (as a holistic outcome of the main hub and the network of sub centers).
