THE FLORAL FACTORY at Bandarawela

THE FLORAL FACTORY at Bandarawela

  • Name: Windya Nuwangani Tennakoon
  • Year: 2018
  • Studio: Level V
  • University: University of Moratuwa

The scheme will act as the floriculture headquarter by becoming a facilitator to streamline the floral production process. This will connect all relevant stake holders from grower to consumer of floricultural products by fetching as a medium of support in term of awareness, knowledge sharing, facility management and business promotion where each consumer could convert the knowledge into producing quality products.

At the same time, this will be an example on how architectural intervention could be used as a strategy to give facet to a re-settled village while responding to specific socio-physical aspects of the area. It responds to existing floriculture skills and knowledge of the resettled community which were lost their livelihoods through Uma Oya multipurpose development project in Bandarawela, to build up the overall socio-economic capacity.

The design proposal will therefore be a medium that links function and context for a strong floriculture industry in Sri Lanka.
